Hi John, Thanks for the suggestion. I've googled and found pix of the Sima quick-release. Do I assume correctly it attaches to the tripod/monopod only, and doesn't require having a fixture permanently on the camera? (I ask 'cos the camera alone slides perfectly snuggly into a pocket on my PFD, but wouldn't if there were anything in the mounting hole.) Have you thought about using a quick-release fitting on the ball mount, which would make it easy to take off and use hand-held.
