Doug, It might be worthwhile to take a look at the Canon A570 IS and similar Canon IS cameras. Image stabilization is really nice to have when shooting images from a kayak cockpit. The "A" series is compact and lightweight, compared to Canon's "S" series of IS cameras. I own an S1 IS (3 Mpx) and an A570 IS (7 Mpx).
