I just finished a 50 inch long model of the LM2-14886 taken from Zimmerly's plans. Better to make the mistakes on the first go around before I commit to a bigger version. I originally started just wanting to build the model as a way of learning about the baidarka. (Also, I can't build anymore "real" boats until I get rid of 3 that I have sitting in the shop!) Had I have known the extent of the work involved I would have perhaps used better wood and finished it a little better. Regardless, it is a fairly close - though certainly not perfect - representation of the original I think. I'll make the paddle this week and rephotograph it with something to show the scale of the model. http://paddleandoar.com/images/baidarka_model1.jpg More pics here: http://picasaweb.google.com/kayakster/HandMade/photo#5178918384121790882 Paul Montgomery paul_at_paddleandoar.com http://paddleandoar.com *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). The baidarka and the other projects look terrific. The baidarka looks like a lot of work for 50 inches. Thanks for posting. You could make a pair and use them as snow shoes. Seriously nice display item.
