That reminds me of a story told to me by a kayaker who grew up on the island of Hawaii: Her father felt sorry for tourists who flew all the way to Hawaii to go beachcombing and didn't find any shells, so he would pick up seashells elsewhere and scatter them on the more popular beaches for tourists to find.
