I have decided to replace Icom M1V with M88 for 2 reasons - #1: Concentric control knobs for Power/Volume/Squelch (main problem), and #2: M88 is shorter, better fits onto the shoulder strap. #1 is a nusiance to a degree bordering with safety. Slight bend in the knob axle and/or grit and/or salt deposits are causing both knobs rotate simultaneously, and increasing the volume you cut the squelch off at the same time (thus killing the audible signal), or unwillingly turn the radio off while trying to adjust the darn squelch. As a result, it becomes a two-hand operation, and this is bad. Now, looking at the M88 photos, I see same concentric knobs. Is it really so? *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
