The Houston Association of Sea Kayakers did a night paddle on the north end of Lake Conroe, about 50 miles north of Houston. 19 folks went for a paddle - totally flatwater and virtually ideal conditions with little wind and a full moon peaking out from behind the clouds. We met at a boat ramp (Cagle Recreation Area) and were underway shortly after 7 p.m., returning at midnight. Everyone had glowsticks and flashlights but thankfully the motor boating crowd left by dark with few exceptions and a marvelous time was had by all. I've posted a few photos, particularly as the sunset came on and the light was wonderful; the two night photos don't quite do justice to the spectacle of 19 boats floating along with glowsticks glowing. It's been quite a while since I've been out in ye olde sea kayak, sure glad I was able to make this trip! Photos are at: http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/563502036KjvfDD?vhost=outdoors I couldn't quite just stash the kayak the next morning (Sunday, May 18th), so went for a solo cruise on Armand Bayou. That was lovely and relaxing too - and the gators again putting on a show. Duckweed was everywhere; wish you could have been here too! Nice photos, Natalie!! Certainly illustrates the practical uses of retro-reflective tape. Night paddles are a lot of fun as long as powerboats don't join the party. Glad you went out and took the photos for us to look at. Winter - or at least early spring - has rolled back in over the PNW with daytime temps of about 60F around here. We had three (count 'em: 3) days of summer. WooHoo. LOL Thanks for the update and pics, Craig *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
