We had similar conditions last summer just off the point of Cape Lookout in North Carolina. The water shoals near the point, so any swell results in a line of breakers to the south of the point. That day, swell from the east and south west combined for, what we called, "zipper waves." You'd get launched into the air if you happen to be under the point of collision of two approaching waves.
