Rules on kayak dimensions: Did the H-29 guidance originate with ABYC or with a kayak manufacturing company?...Paddlers want to know! 1. These rules sound like one manufacturer trying to gain marketing advantage over the competition. 2. Sounds like an effort to reduce skill levels obtainable with the product (to create boats more in line with "wreck boats"). 3. Sounds like an attempt to create boats with windage more in line with canoes so paddlers can more easily be blown to kingdom come! 3. More space for the knees so that smaller paddlers haven't a prayer of holding onto the boat for leaning, bracing and rolling (bring back the old whitewater c-c roll). The design must have been created by some old white water paddlers. Who remembers when the WW instructors would not rate coastal paddling above Class 1 white water? 4. What exactly are their criteria for "seaworthy" in the marine environment as understood by yachtsmen that refuse to wear PFDs because, if you do, you are not a "real yachtsman". Who will call these ABYC bandits to account here?
