My source for this information is Scott Roberge who runs Tongass Kayaks here in Petersburg. Just a coupe weeks ago he was with one of his tours in LeConte Bay when a Cast Guard chopper began to circle him. He radioed the CG and they told him they were looking for a party of three who were reported missing by relatives down south. Seems they "had not been checking in with their SPOT system". Scott reported he had seen the kayakers earlier that day and they were fine. The CG them told Scott that that was the third false search this summer due to the SPOT system.
