Thanks Rob. Those kind of articles are far different to write than ones
where there are good outcomes or even some survivours to talk to, though in
the latter it can still be difficult to solicite cooperation. A re-write
just before final edit made life difficult for the editorial staff and my
busy schedule, when new info came in.

I've certainly done a fair bit of difficult paddling off Brooks, but I had
_wanted_ to be out there for the rough stuff, eyes wide open. Greg Stamer
alludes to this exilliration in his article about Iceland in the same issue,
regarding headlands. Having said that, I'd never do the rough water thing in
a southeast regime out there off Brooks, although there are strategies for
rounding in certain aspects of that regime:

.

It was cool to read about my hero, Paul in the same issue, as well as I
totally ate up Greg's article. Loved the dynamics - Freya in hard-to-see
black with her Wing paddle and Greg high-vis yak with his Greenland stick-
and sticking it to the man paying for his former cubical at work. I don't
like a lot of personal life-issue accounts in a kayak magazine, but the
one's SK print are so completely relevant, engaging, well-placed and
tasteful -- and full of pathos. Another favourite was Greg Blanchette's
"Unintended Crossing" a few years ago. Okay, lots of years ago.

Gordin has a mention about his worthy cause for cancer donations, which was
cool considering Gordin has been a bit pejorative of SK here and there. I
certinly enjoy his top choice of magazine, Adventure Kayak as noted o his
blog, but the substance of the two magazine hardly compares with the
fast-read (but fun-read) of AKM aiming at the gen X'ers and Y'ers to some
degree. Heh, heh, Gordin wants to be 18 again. Heh, heh, so do I some
days...

It's all good. Old kayakers never die - we just smell that way. You will be
there one day too, oh you of the river worship clan, Mr.G. :-)

That was another fine article, Doug. It is hard to read about tragedies.

Cheers,
