Unable to brace effectively, etc. Times have certainly changed. Thirty years ago I didn't even bother to take a compass. Jeans and a wool shirt were my immersion gear. A $3 plastic poncho was the rain gear. I had war-surplus duffle bags for some of my gear and the rest was stowed in climbing rucksacks in the FolBot. But we weren't out playing in rock gardens in the surf either.
