Well, it took a month and a half, but the Pentax people honored my warranty
and gave me a new camera.
I had heard they often claim the damage was beyond the normal use, so I
wasn't sure how it would go. I'm a happy camper, because they gave me a new
unit that may have been a return, but looks brand new. It also came with all
the gear, so I have second battery and charger free of charge, pardon my
pun. I was never happy with the pictures I had been getting with my old
unit, but the 4 practice pics I took with the new one are better than
anything I'd gotten with the old. I've had it for a few weeks now, but have
been so out habit of using it, I never remembered to take it with me
kayaking. Hopefully, I'll find something camera worthy soon; my website has
been rather stale lately and since I won't be making TAKS this year, I'm
going to be missing a big chunk of my photo opportunities on the year. I'll
look forward to broadening my horizons.

Just thought I should give some credit where credit was due with the Pentax
warranty.

I hate to ask this but I have to replace my waterproof camera and need
help. I KNOW this has been covered but the reason I need to replace it
is that my house was broken into and I lost my cameras and computers and
even the back drive. I had been saving the camera discussions but . . .
So I need help, please. I want a camera with a zoom and that takes
decent pictures. The Sony CyberShot was a camera but not all that
satisfactory. I know what I don't want from it <G>

Thanks for the help,
Joan Spinner

Joan,

For me, price is always a consideration, but I first chose the Pentax over
the Olypus based on three things: The P shot video at 30fps, used cheaper SD
cards and had less lag time on the shutter. By now I imagine the Oly
probably has caught up with the video and lag time, but I'm not sure. They
do seem to have a rugged unit though, guaranteed shockproof. I would not
choose a camera that needed to be in a waterproof case, as I use it too
much. I also like the size of the P over the O as it fits in my pocket
better.
Hope that helps in your decision.

Hi Joan,

Not sure what you want from a camera, and small size may be important, but I
have a Canon G9 in a waterproof housing which I'm really happy with.

Not as small as the ruggedised point & shoots, but does all I ask of it, and
I carry a SLR's for a job.

Good luck.

Cheers
