I posted an account of my kayak mothership (muthah-ship) project on West Coast Paddlers today complete with a lot of photos of the boat as it was when I bought it and as it is today (literally, today). My plans to have it doing mothership duty this summer proved to be wildly optimistic but I'm pretty sure it will be in service next spring. The link is http://www.westcoastpaddler.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=2413 for anyone who is interested. Just as a history, I started the mothership project because I had run out of places to paddle that were within reasonable paddling distance for a weekend. Plus my wife was not coming along because she really didn't like to paddle that much (she's gone twice this season... both times in my Coaster). So the boat is part of a cunning plan to get her to come along more often. The mothership (named "Ad Hoc") should also provide transportation for the family to suitable camp spots without resorting to the ferries (and their long lines waiting for a passage). The family includes two toddlers and their peripherals so the boat, while not quite big enough to sleep everyone, the Carver is plenty big enough to transport everyone to the islands for cheap camping and fun kayaking. It's been an interesting project.
