I think the camaraderie evident in the photography was one of the reasons I 
posted the link.

Cell phones work fine. No one notifies the CG - just vessel services if you 
are into that. I never pay head to communication issues unless there is fog. 
These are serious waters as far as making sure you don't get in the way of 
bigger tonnage.

Their October run had a bit of wind I'd say. Just right. I've had some good 
crossings myself. Usually takes me forever as I always end up playing in the 
overfalls and whirl pools if its a big tide in Active Pass. Crossings 
further north are shorter but more awe inspiring up near Lasqueti Island 
when long-fetch S.Easters blow againt the ebb. It's all good though, and all 
fun. Except when its flat calm. Kinda dulll. :-)
