Most of the wreckage I see on the coast is way gone: just twisted sheets of steel or slabs of splintered plywood ... the odd hatch cover here and there. Now and then there will be something recognizable as boatlike. I always wonder if lives were lost, and almost never know for sure. Some wreckage has persisted on rocky shores, steel mostly, cast up above the usual high water mark, for years.
