I know about
the sock that fits in any boat w/o floatation, but it is one more bit of
complication, seems to me if you are having to bail, then the sock could come
out as well, leaving you in a bad position. I wouldn't go out w/o it, but the
idea isn't attractive.

I use a seasock in a fiberglass kayak. It's no trouble to exit, but
yes, reentering can be a pain. You need to "burp" it when you first get in the
kayak. When you capsize and exit, you tend to suck a little water under the
sock, so it doesn't fit as well when you try to reenter. However, it doesn't turn
inside out! I haven't accomplished a re-entry (paddlefloat) roll yet with
one, but I think it's doable.
One more note. When I practice wet exits with a seasock, the kayak tends
to ship very little water. I usually don't even empty it. However, with a high
decked boat, this means you have quite a climb to get back in the kayak! Even
with an assisted rescue, this can be tiring. On the other hand, if your boat
is high decked, it may always be more tiring to do a re-entry than on a lower
decked boat.
    Just my thoughts.
