Paddlewisers, What's up with Dubside.net closing 12/8/08? Source: http://dashpointpirate.typepad.com/ I'm glad I already have all three DVD's. I never would've learned the ropes without them, and I'd probably have only half as many rolls. Interesting... I saw him today after the Deception Pass Dash. I had seen his name on the list of racers and went over to ask him which kayak he paddled. He told me that he gave the race a pass (so to speak). So I dunno. He didn't say anything I didn't see Tom Sharp there. I hope the DVDs will remain available. The Dash this year was pretty nasty. Racers started on the slack-to-ebb current at just about the same time the westerly wind built up coming straight down the Straits of Juan de Fuca. The later the paddlers exited Canoe Pass on their way back the worse the seas were. One sheriff deputy on a jet ski (there were two) told me that waves were hitting ten feet!!! I watched from the bridges and saw several paddlers capsize when they hit the waves just west of the island. I went back to Bowman Bay and helped spotting the finishers. Even Bowman Bay was lumpy with whitecaps and rollers. However it felt pretty calm to the paddlers who had batled the big waves in the Pass. The surf ski paddlers - who generally finished earlier than the rest - had he easiest time of it. Several paddlers reported assisting in rescues. The cold front that came through put a little bit of snow and slush on Snoqualmie Pass which I had to traverse on my way home in the dark. Quite a weekend.
