Well...um, the 0:20 mark is a bit disconcerting. The 1:50 mark almost
makes up for it. Almost.

Jeez... I looked through that video three times wondering what was so
remarkable about it. Um... baby surf... more baby surf... yikes... more baby
surf.... still more baby surf.... a girl standing in the foam of baby
surf....more and more baby surf....

I must be getting old. I kept thinking, "I've ridden rowboat wakes bigger
than this". :P

I get to see more fanny in the parking lot while changing with
friends than in I got in college. But the difference is that it isnt
pristine fanny any more. Fresh buns are best. This is true at
breakfast too.

I watched the video once (or was it twice?) and found it irresistable.
It seems that surf is huge if you have a small enough boat. Therefore
I am now in the market for a 35 foot long kayak, perhaps 6 feet wide.

Craig,

Your getting cynical in your old age, and a curmudgeon to boot. Don't you
remember the thrill of riding that first wave or wake, way back when.

The only thing that bothered me in that video was the "high brace" he did
with his paddle way over his head and his elbows way higher than his
shoulders.

Wow! Surfin' USA here I come.

Then I realised that in the States, fanny is used to describe a, um, less
sensitive, sort of, part of the female anatomy.

What in the world are you referring to?

Fanny is gender neutral in the US. Everyone has one unless you lost it
in the recent stock market crash.

Nope. Doesn't make up for it. Like you said, "almost" but nope.

Small surf or not, the guy is a "boob" for not wearing a helmet.

The guy in this video isn't surfing, really, is he? I consider myself
to be surfing when my paddle is not moving. I'd call what he is doing
paddling with a wave assist.

Since I am a land-locked Chicago whitewater paddler, maybe I've
misunderstood what surfing is. He had to have been pretty tired out
after his 'surfing.'

And, if anyone really cares, "Fanny" was, when I was kid, the nickname
for a woman named "Francis" as well as a term for anyone's butt. Also
was George Custer's nickname at West Point.

At BCU week on Tybee a few yrs back a Welsh surf instructor once told
me that fanny in GB is considered a naughty word and that the
acceptable term is bum. This came to light when a visting American
forgot her fanny pack and loudly told everyone in the restaurant that
she had to go retrieve it from her room. The patrons gasped! They
call it a bum bag.

No wonder England lost the colonies. Savages!

Allow, if you will, a female member of the list, fully bi-lingual
having lived in UK for the last 11 years but originally from Texas, to
clarify a few things. (hmm would that be tri-lingual - English,
American & Texan?)

Fanny, is not a 'naughty word' in English but simply a term for the
female genital area sometimes quaintly referred to as the 'front
bottom'. So yes, a 'fanny pack' in the UK would be quite a different
thing indeed. Bum is preferred but arse is usually acceptable too.
(oh the sentences one writes attempting to explain things) Oh and
Fanny was the common soubriquet for Francis here as well, making all
sorts of dreadful jokes possible.

We are indeed two countries separated by one language. In the US a
gentleman could walk around in nickers, a vest and suspenders with out
anyone batting an eye, in England he'd be arrested for wearing
underpants, t-shirt and a garter belt in public. That is unless he
was in London's Soho or perhaps parts of Brighton ;-)

Cheers gents. Don't forget to wear your suspenders, but leave the
fanny packs at home.

I don't think he was interested in the undulating curves of the waves, I
just think he was using them as an excuse to get closer to the undulating
curves of the bare breasted women.
I think, though, when it comes to waves or topless women, you do the best
with what you've got!
