Craig, I'd love to do that class sometime. I'll be interested to see how you think the SOF compares with your 'real' Coaster! If I wasn't so lazy and could get some of the work I need to do done around the house, I could contemplate building a boat and a SOF would probably be my project of choice. We're going to do the week-long SOF kayak building class that Brian of Cape Falcon Kayaks offers. I know I'm going to build Brian's F1 which is an SOF kayak in the spirit of the Mariner Coaster and looks to have fantastic surfing and maneuverability characteristics. Pam is leaning that way too. It is two months away, and will pre-empt any trips to so. cali. but I'm really looking forward to it. Just wish that there was a one-week yurt at Manzanita State Park for us to rent (they're all booked). For the curious among you, here ( http://www.capefalconkayak.com/f1surf.html ) is Brian's web page with photos of the F1 in the surf and on the beach. It's 6 inches longer than the Coaster and can be customized to fit me a little better (I need a slighly larger cockpit, for instance). But a 5-day trip to the islands sounds terrific right now. I'm going to be hard-pressed to be ready to take a week off by May 3rd what with the mother-ship and the shop restoration. Craig Jungers Moses Lake, WA PS: On the bright side, the lake has thawed completely now. Shortest period (by a full month) that I can remember. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
