Thanks for the update link. My two teens are on the lake a lot in summer on
SOT's. We typically go to lakes with restrictions for fast motorboats. On
lakes without restrictions, we stay near shore or travel together. Swimmers
in boating areas also have the same dangers to face. I've always believed
that it is best to just stay out of vessel traffic areas. I don't know the
area where this teen was hit. Doesn't sound like an area I'd let my teens
paddle alone.

In the end, I guess I'm surprised there are not more of these incidents
given the irresponsibility of many in the boating community that comes to
light now and again. Given the wide expanse and lack of objects, nutbar boat
drivers are less dangerous to themselves and other water users than the car
driver of similar persuasion.

Regardless, a tragedy yet to possibly play out in full. Can't imagine the
parental rage and horror, their son off doing something wholesome, active,
and not in cyberspace.

Anyway, this latest incident adds gravitas retroactively to you collision
report previously in Sea Kayaker Magazine.
