Tether yourself to your boat only as necessary - which shouldn't be often (and only after learning how to stay with your boat after a bail-out without a tether). Tether your PFD to your deck or use a deck net bag - as Cafynn did - for off shore paddling in hot climates when you don't want to wear it or "can't." Freya? She should know better. Then again, in the course of a one year paddled one is bound to make a few errors. What's your backup? (rhetorical)?
