Thought it was more of a bit of a rant...:-)

BTW, I quoted a line from City Slickers previously. I Goggled it and see the 
quote was off a bit:

For me, I enjoy gnarly water and the _one thing_ for me I'm passionate about 
is making sure I have a fighting chance (Chuck's term) to get myself out of 
whatever I might get myself in to while paddling as "avoidance" is a notion 
that blurs when one seeks out interesting hydraulics and conditions. So I 
don't give a shi(p) what recommendations I might read or hear about from 
experts of any particular persuasion, I have to go and figure out what is 
going to work for me. Rafael has that figured out for him. Guess that was my 
point.

As for your blog, I'm grateful. You came on like gangbusters on the various 
paddle chat lines the last few years and haven't let up with your pithy, 
well-thought-out advice and ability to share a wealth of maritime knowledge 
contexed for paddlers. Thank you Craig. Stay young and healthy. You made 
your mark in my life. Overall, the sport and many of its fascinating, even 
its instructive life-lesson parameters have been better defined with you 
around offering your wisdom and penmanship - both bandwidth wise and in 
print.
