Jim Tibensky was out here from the Chicago area to take care of some family matters and wanted to squeeze out some time on the water. I just got back yesterday from two weeks in the Everglades with teens from the counseling service I volunteer with. Two separate week-long kayak trips for Spring Break with teens. Both trips were all girls and we had 40 mph winds the first week and, to be brief,it was quite a time. But I'm writing to thank, profusely, Mark and Barb and Ken for their hospitality and generosity. Moving my mother in law out of her home into an elder care home and settling everything in four days left me feeling a bit ragged. And I knew the next two weeks of teenagers wouldn't give my brain a chance to decompress. So the time spent with Mark and Barb and Ken was a true blessing. My spouse and her cousin got to walk Balbo Island and I got to see a seal and some waves and rocks and I got to be a water being instead of a son in law and terrestrial creature. The loan of a good boat and paddle and lifejacket (all of which I did my best to destroy), the company, the weather - the whole thing makes me smile as I write this. I have relied on the generosity of Paddlewisers before and repeat my belief that kayakers are among the finest of Nature's creations. Thank you, again, Mark, and thank you again everyone for keeping the Paddlewise community going.
