[Paddlewise] Doug's old Nordkapp versus the new

Doug wrote that his new doesn't glide nearly as well s the old,
and I can see just two possible reasons:

1. The old one has a better surface, after having been polished more.

Not very likely, but possible.

2. The effects of inertia. I drive heavy vehicles, up to 18 meters long,
and it is very evident that you roll much longer when you have a heavy
load than with a light load.

The same could apply to your Nordkapps - try loading the new till it
weighs
like the old, and with the center of gravity in the same place, and then
paddle!
Ideally the two kayaks CG should heightwise be at the same position, but
that
is harder to figure out and get right.

I bet the new comes out tops, for various reasons: The surface of the
hull is
bound to be better, the increased weight not only increases inertia, but
also
lengthens the waterline, which decreases the wave-making resistance,
unless
you're planing!

My 2 cents worth,

Tord
