Likewise, I have never experienced a rogue wave, but that doesn't mean they're not out there! I do recall reading some of the science which explained the phenomena [ basically two large waves combining]. And locally, during the tragic 1998 Sydney to Hobart yacht race, a 90-footer was observed; measured on the altimeter of a rescue helicopter which was in the act of winching a yachtman out of the sea when the monster swept through. It almost claimed the chopper as the pilot scrambled for altitude with seconds to spare.
