My friend Ken took this video of a roll I learned at TAKS. He says the Greenland name for this roll is waadaafaakaauqalatta, but I'm sure there are supposed to be more a's in it! Ken is famous for his narration skills! Did you forget to include the link? Is this it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RByT1sB50gg Nicely done. Isn't it easier to just do it the normal way? Am I missing something here? :P Craig On Wed, Oct 21, 2009 at 7:07 AM, Mark Sanders <marksanders_at_sandmarks.net>wrote: > My friend Ken took this video of a roll I learned at TAKS. > He says the Greenland name for this roll is waadaafaakaauqalatta, but I'm > sure > there are supposed to be more a's in it! > Ken is famous for his narration skills! > > Mark *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Well, you're missing the joy of being able to show you can do complicated rolls for no good reason! Actually, I think it's supposed to prepare you for learning a storm roll. If you want to see an expert do it, try this: http://www.kayakways.net/cstormroll.mov Mark ----- Original Message ----- Did you forget to include the link? I am a strong proponent of the Dave Kruger paddling method: don't capsize... especially on purpose. And even more especially in water that's colder than about 85F. This technique has only failed me once (in a sea kayak, at least) not counting less-than-graceful exits on dumpy beaches. Ideally, this technique is best practiced on water that has no lumps larger than a duck on it. I don't understand why it's not more widely taught in kayak schools. Perhaps Kruger has trademarked it. Oops. By the way... I actually heard from paddlers who don't see anything wrong with work boots and jeans while paddling. And at least one of them can get away with it. Maybe I should have invested in better hiking boots instead of a drysuit. Is there a named Greenland roll for someone wearing a wool flannel shirt and a baseball cap? One without the "F" word in it, I mean?
