If water got in did it happen after a particular incident (endo in surf, smash up in rocks) or was the failure due to some quality control issue with the electronics? I appreciated the video link Mark sent. The only other kayak clip of the helmet cam I'd seen was shot in the Okisollo Tide Race. If you do not successfully break out and slip backwards onto the leading wave here your kayak gets pushed into the following chaos. With four and five foot waves slamming you from all directions the helmet cam works like a fruit fly on acid. Your head and consequently the camera darts from one instantaneous image, to the next view, constantly seeking where the next threat (wave) is coming from until you essentially either out guess yourself or fall one brace behind and get knocked over. I know this from both my short experience and from a longer helmet cam video shot by some kayaking friends. In this scenario I don't know if any camera fixed to either a helmet or deck would be ideal. I suspect two cameras would be needed. One fixed and stable on shore the other dynamic and mounted on board to capture the frantic action. In the video Mark sent I found it fascinating how Duane ran off that guy riding the plank and using a broom. I assume each tribe has it's own territory in the California surf zone. I also appreciated how Duane graciously endeavoured to show us some submarine views of the dynamic surf zone. Very considerate. Loved the rides; especially in the long boat.
