Just a note: Craig stated it is only about 800 km to Prince Rupert.
This may be true by water, but it is more like 1500 km if you take a car
and drive it from Vancouver. It takes 3 days, but costs a lot less if
you camp, and other than not having much paddling along the way, would
be worth the trip.

There is a pretty big paddling community in Rupert and Terrace, some of
whom guide in the summer, and some of whom might be interested in just
paddling with folks from far away for fun. There are some amazing
islands to check out on longer trips. Prince Rupert Harbour is worth a
daytrip, for sure. Salt lakes, beaches, middens, petroglyphs: people
have been living here for 5000 years, and only recently have started to
screw it up. You can leave those bits behind in less than an hour of
paddling.

Thanks Rob - all useful info.

N & I are heading off, at the end of this week, for 5 days of tramping
(hiking) in some of our NZ South Island mountains (Routeburn & Caples
tracks). We'll take along a map of BC/Alaska and a copy of all the
suggestions from you folk on Paddlewise.

At the end of the day, with sore muscles and a cup of soup, we'll have some
good discussions of the many options for next July.

Best Regards
Paul Hayward, Auckland, New Zealand
