When I first started kayaking off Point Defiance Park (alone), I would frequently get asked", Isn't that dangerous?" I would always reply, "Yes- and I drove on I-5 to get here, too!" I never had anyone fail to get the point. If they pushed it, I explained about the drysuit and safety equipment and sometimes even went over the current tide and current situation. By that time I was ready to launch, anyway! Pam in Washington State In a message dated 1/9/2010 10:33:25 P.M. Would you let your children take up kayaking? Would you rescue someone else who took on that level of risk? If you live in an urban area that is about the average risk of dying in an auto accident (each year) if you drive a car.
