While 2.8 kts may be her average speed, there must have been numerous longer stretches where she maintained at least 4 and possibly 4.5 kts.  This is quite easy to do in an Epic 18, much more so than in her previous NDK Explorer.  In her San Diego lecture she explicitly expressed high satisfaction with her choice of paddle, boat, and rudder.
