Well, taller at least. That implies "bigger" to me. I was tipped off to this
story by the blog "Kayak Yak" (http://kayakyak.blogspot.com/). Apparently
the folks at Oregon State University have correlated data to indicate that
all waves in the N. Pacific are getting taller and storm waves are the
biggest of all. And that a storm wave of 30-feet in 1996 might now be a
storm wave of 45-feet!!! That's a significant change in my book. Also, the
further north you go the larger the waves get. My experiences in the Gulf of
Alaska (and, more specifically, one memorable trip exiting Prince William
Sound in a 700-foot tanker) makes me think that if they get too much bigger
I don't want to be out there in them. Actually, I didn't like it much back
then, either. But I was just a young guy in my 50s and what did I know about
danger?

The blog has a link to his source for the story. Interesting, huh?

I believe it. I didn't do as much sea kayaking last year as I did
whitewater because everytime I checked conditions for the coast it
read, * West swell 9-12 feet, wind West to 25 knots, gusts to 35 knots,
wind waves 3-5 feet.* Thanks, but I'll find something else to do.

Cheers,

Rob G
