I have a Garmin GPS system with all the charts necessary for this trip and it seems like a good idea. Plan "A" is to tow the muthah-ship to Prince Rupert and launch there and paddle locally while waiting for a weather window and then scoot across to the islands at 20kts. I have hopes of doing that this season but I know how things like that tend to slip. Especially given the simple fact that my new shop stands without a roof (waiting on trusses, the contractor says). The Princess (our 21-ft 1970-vintage Streamline trailer) will be put to good use camping and kayaking on the lakes around the Central Washington (state) area this summer. Our daughter and her husband have just bought a 25-foot Outback and they both kayak so we are hoping to get in some paddling with them. Their two boys, 3 and 2, make kayaking difficult for both of them but with grandma around they should be able to get away. Another goal this summer is to walk onto the ferry at Anacortes and paddle from Friday Harbor to James Island and then to Stuart Island and back to FH and ferry home. I know that the trip through Cattle Pass is more manly but I'm not feeling all that manly and this is easier. And Bob, I think that surrounding yourself with charts and maps is wonderful fun. It's even better nowadays with Google Maps. :) Craig Jungers Moses Lake, WA www.nwkayaking.net *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
