Human error is certainly possible, but one of the Toyotas that went out of control in California was had plenty of evidence afterward that the driver was applying the brakes as hard as he could. Here in Minnesota, a man was sentenced to five years in prison for manslaughter after his Toyota failed to stop, and hit another vehicle. With no evidence that the car was faulty, the jury concluded he had stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake pedal. The case is now being reviewed in light of the recall. Imagine being sent to prison because your car acted up!
