Other reports indicate that surveys of the original well provide a high degree of accurate positional information, allowing the new drill to go down 10,000 feet, turn and go another 8,000 feet on the diagonal to intercept the bad pipe -- that's the seven-inch-wide bad pipe. Again, note the "says here in the fine print" reference earlier.
