Two weeks ago I returned from my yearly visit to Corsica. During that 
trip, deep in the Corsican mountains, I met Kira, chained, starved, 
covered in itch mite, half bold, without water and with a turned-over 
refrigerator for shelter. I've adopted her and smuggled her to the 
Netherlands. With some medical help and a ton of food, she's turned into 
the most adorable dog one could ever have.

Today, I introduced her to kayaking. It took a big bowl of treats to get 
her aboard, but once we were paddling, she was fearless and clearly 
enjoying the experience. Here's a picture of our first trip together:

I never planned to own a dog - but I'm loving it.
