Paul Caffyn has just advised me that his book, "The Dreamtime Voyage", about
his adventure circumnavigating Australia is back in print. He added that
he's having problems finding someone in North America to distribute copies
of the book and individual shipping rates from NZ are somewhat spendy.

He also mentioned that Sea Kayaker Magazine has refused, for some reason, to
allow him to sell via their bookshelf.

I do not have a copy of any of his books and would love to see them all come
back into print and become available here. If anyone has any ideas that
would be nice. I mentioned to him that a PayPal account and a web page would
probably get him some orders but it would be much better if he could find a
distributor in North America.

So if you have some marketing ideas this would be the appropriate time to
mention them. :)

Craig,

He should put it on the Kindle, which gives him worldwide distribution
through Amazon with no shipping costs. I've published three books on the
Kindle in the last year and they are already outselling all of my print
books, including some that are in their 4th edition.

Bruce,

Your suggestions sounds credible to me. Could you back-channel to me and
I'll get you in touch with Paul and we'll see if we can't get something
rolling. I have no idea how Paul and high tech get along but maybe this is a
chance to get all of his books out there.

Also.. I have no idea what the story is with Sea Kayaker. Paul just
mentioned that in an email to me with no explanation or further details so
it may be something entirely different than what it appears.

I have all Paul's books and they will go to the grave with me as part of my cherished possessions. You can say what you want about Paul, but he was the man in his day and trails blazed hitherto are in his wake...

Dreamtime never sold well when it was on NA bookshelves, it was a long read and today's generation of paddlers are all slam-bam-thank-you-mam (or "man", sorry, gotta be PC) - or so it seems.

For me, Paul's books were like awesome foreplay in something committed and long-term. He fuelled so many desires for me for adventure and challenge and pushing limits, physically and psychologically which were then realized in real-time where the melancholy was so intense because even in the joyous moments there was a realization that those moments disapear to be remembered only in our dreams.. . no I'm not weird, this is how deeply his literature influenced many paddlers in the hey-day of sea kayaking growth. And I remember how empty Paul was at the end of each of his most excellent adventures.

May his books find new life and readers...
