Nothing to do with paddling, directly, but you can take canoe trips inside an establishment we visited a few weeks back, looking for the totally awesome wildlife there! More below:

Not been to the UK for a few years we flew over this time, as all the ferries between Gothenburg and the UK have stopped running (once there were three lines, with one of them going all the way up the Thames to London)! And we took camping gear, so no room for a folding kayak, so we left it at home.

We went to the UK for our vacation and had planned to visit friends in Scotland, but we got so totally taken by all the birds at Slimbridge, the center establishment for WWT, the Waterfowl and Wetlands Trust, founded many years ago by Sir Peter Scott, the son of the famous polar explorer Scott. At Slimbridge various aquatic birds, on the Red (near-to-extinction) list, are bred, but this huge numbers of kept birds attracts thousands of wild birds, and in many ways they are the real attraction: Where else will wild birds feed out of your hand? Birds like totally wild woodpigeons, mute swans, greylag geese and shelducks do it here! A miracle, in short.

I've posted some photos from Slimbridge, Street (which has a wonderful Youth Hostel), and Glastonbury at FlickR, if you're interested. Many of Nenes, maybe too many, sorry, but as they are my favourite birds - native to Hawaii, once on the brink to extinction, but saved by Peter, and his WWT. As a matter of fact he founded the WWF, too!

The gallery contains a lot of flowers, too, if you like those.

More photos will follow, not least of raptors and owls that we enjoyed flying at Newent :-)!
