I phoned Comox Valley Kayaks today; they sold the kayak to the missing teen
(who has been presumed lost at sea). It was a Wilderness System Tsunami 160.
At 23.5" wide, this was a good kayak to be in.

Comox Valley Kayaks are an exemplary retail provider who offer lessons and
continually promote safety. I didn't question them a whole lot more about
the paddler nor do I want to seek details from those who knew him at this
time.

The sentence below from the article Doug linked to bothers me:

"Three hours later the boy's water-filled kayak with paddles intact and a
lifejacket, hoodie and shoes inside was found on rocky Mushroom Beach in
Helliwell Provincial Park, directly across from Sandpiper Beach."

I have questions like: How is it all those articles ended up on the beach
together with the kayak? Did someone gather them up on the beach and put
them
together with the kayak? Did he kayak capsize near shore and drift up on the
beach even though swamped? Maybe the tide was falling. Maybe the author of
the
article got things wrong. Maybe all those items were teathered to the kayak.
Maybe the paddle was a spare paddle. Was there a lot of other beaches near
the
area the kayak was found? Was it just a coincidence it ended up on a beach?
could the teen have landed the kayak there or swam the kayak there or nearly
there? I'd like to talk to whoever first found the kayak to know just where
it
was found and what was the orientation of the kayak and the items found with
it.
