I've been lurking about and think it's about time to share some hot Texas paddling. John Whorff has published his new book on Kayaking the Texas Coast and was duly invited by the Houston Assoc. of Sea Kayakers to come for a presentation. Of course, the obvious follow-up is to paddle the next day and we duly took a trip around my "own" Pelican Island. Ken Johnson from Corpus Christi took many of the pictures for John's book and did many of the paddles with him for same; Winnie Shrum came too (she also contributed many photos) and a group of 10 of us had a great warm paddle. I had to try a variant on paddling a few weeks back and rigged a sail for my canoe; took my dog for her second ever canoe trip and all turned out well. This was sailing south to north on Lake Anahuac. I've been paddling in the Houston area for 30 years now and still finding new routes to take, new ways to enjoy being on the water.
