I have somehting like this with my fingers, progressively getting worse for a few years. Bad on the bicycle (so numb I can hardly change gears) and sometimes doing other things it comes and goes. Rarely bothers me canoeing, but then I am usually in a canoe and can switch hand position a lot. Sawbones is sending me for conduction tests on my ulnar nerve(s).
