Hi everyone, Dave Kruger called me this morning to say that he's selling his kayaks (I'm pretty sure he has a couple Pygmy kayaks plus a Folbot or two) on craigslist. He lives in Astoria, Oregon and has some of his boating pals handling the details of the sale of these. He also told me that he's selling his Bartender which took him over a year to build while he recovered from shoulder surgery and needed something to keep him from paddling. I have been aboard the Bartender and it handles beautifully. If any powerboat could be described as a playboat then this would be it. Somewhat tippy due to its dory hull shape but it handles beautifully in waves and seas. It was built to be able to handle the various river bars in the Pacific NW of the USA. Dave doesn't think his bartender would make a good mothership but I'm not so sure. The living quarters are sparse; consisting of a cuddy cabin with cushions. However it's dry and warm up there and - most importantly - it would take a really determined grizzly bear to get to you if you were spending the night in there. The cockpit is roomy enough for cooking and eating and just sitting around enjoying the scenery. Dave has a two-piece dinghy he's also selling that he used with the Bartender. My preference would be for an inflatable along with two SOF kayaks (the F-1 is ideal). Getting into and out of the Bartender using the dinghy is a neat trick but an inflatable would make it much easier. Dave is asking $27,000 for his Bartender and I know for a fact that he has much more into it than that in just materials; not counting any of his own time. He spent over a year building the boat and the work is well documented on-line if anyone is interested in following up on this. If you are interested you can contact me via email and I can put you in touch with the people who are handing his boat sales. Or just check craigslist on the Astoria area. Dave told me that his problems with molds and fungi are not getting better but that he's living in one of the best places in the world... where fresh air from the Pacific washes over his house. He had a good morning today and checked the boat with friends and had enough energy to call me and reminisce a bit as well as tell me he's selling his boats. He still has a sense of humor and we shared a moment of remembrance about the cute girls who served us coffee at the pier in Astoria.
