sounds like a nice day.....
today i had to "remove 8 inches of sunshine" from my drive before i could
get the truck out
to the road and launch site ...... and damn it all.... the tv weather guy
says "more of the same tomorrow"
today we did about 11 miles down the hillsbrough river.... easy paddle,
lots of birds, turtles & gators.

I haven't been out on the boat much in the last month, I've spent my
spare time putting down a hardwood floor in my living room - my lesson
for this project was leave the veneer plastering to the pros. (since I
was doing the floor I figured I would replace the one paneling wall
while I was at it - which tripled the length of the project)

Anyways my surf ski buddies called yesterday morning and asked if I
wanted to go for a paddle.

We paddled from Lynch Park in Beverly Massachusetts down to west beach,
near misery island and back. It was a nice trip down to beach, with bit
of a tail wind.
Alas this meant a headwind heading back. We hugged the coast to stay
out of the breeze. Black rock off of Endicott college wasn't even
visible on the way out. We had an 11.4 foot tide Saturday (a seasonal
high) which completely covered the rock ledges. The clapotis by the
Lynch park boat house was entertaining, with water splashing into the
cockpit from both sides (which isn't a bad thing when the take out is 30
yards away)

Three of the four of us had our 'winter' boats out. Nice comfy boats
with minimal chance of tipping over in case of mental/technique lapses.
Two paddlers in dry suits two in rubber (or rubber plus padding jacket).
I can say the NRS titanium gloves are warm - almost too warm. Two
hours of paddling and my hands were comfortable the entire time.

Not much for wildlife, or other boat traffic, none the less it was nice
to get out, very peaceful and relaxing.

Driving to the put in I noticed my local pond is frozen over.
If the weather stays this mild I may get in another year of paddling at
least once a month...

happy holidays,
Kirk
