Parenthetically, in one of the earlier posts this website was mentioned. Further down I saw that Don Starkell (Paddle to the Amazon) from the earlier days had also passed:

I saw this go by on Facebook yesterday. So Doug is, of course, right. We're
all getting older (I'm just over a year from 70!) and none of us gets out
of this alive.

I have cut way back on some of the paddling adventures... I try to stay in
reasonable shape but winters affect me considerably more now than in years
past.

One thing though: most of us on Paddlewise have led adventurous lives doing
things that most people only see on television. Lots of us have been
airplane pilots, sailboaters, mountaineers, and world travelers. A fair
number of us speak numerous languages. I counted English, Spanish,
Portuguese, Japanese, Swedish, Norwegian, and Maori on my Facebook home
page just in the past week. Not to mention Newfie.

We are an uncommon lot with a lot in common. When we go we will most likely
go as a result of doing something adventurous and not because we spent too
much time on the sofa.

RIP both Don Starkell and Eric Soares. The best of a bad bunch. :)
