Did anyone from paddlewise make the run of the charles this year? I was surprised by the number of SUP that did the race. By my count twelve did the 6 mile, nine did the 9 mile and eight did the 19 mile. Including one guy who pulled off 19 miles in 3:14. The only DQ that I saw for all races was a SUP who did 19. He finished but was disqualified for having done the course without a PFD. My wife and I paddled the final leg of the relay as part of the blackburn race committee's entry. We managed to finish second in the mixed division. Way behind first place. The first place team mixed team was billed as the 'boston area distance and sprint ski club'. At the start they were welcomed during the race directors meeting as a group of olympic hopefuls who put together a mixed team. When they portaged they ran faster with a canoe than I can run by myself. Once again I screwed up on the last portage, 'enjoying' the feel of steel girder to the skull when I didn't duck enough going under a pedestrian bridge. The sad part was that this was the second time that I've engaged that bridges structure.
