That is worth the price of admission! I have a sibling to your 'mystery bird at a distance' in the back of my car. I found it a couple of months ago. It looked like it was surfing because it was anchored to the river bottom and the current was strong. It's totally mummified. Hasn't decomposed and doesn't seem like it will.
