This afternoon a 2-alarm fire destroyed Sterling Kayaks near Bellingham,
WA. Pam has had two of his boats and there are numerous others who have
bought from him. His Illusion is especially popular. No one was hurt.
Sterling was in the building and apparently alone but got out.

I hope he got some of his molds out but there are a lot of kayaks around he
can pull molds from (I hope!).

I've heard they paddle great, but it appears they burn pretty good too!
That was quite a blaze.
I hope he'll be able to rebuild; it would be a shame to lose a good
kayak manufacturer.

Brandon Nelson posted on the Yahoo "Gone Paddling" club message board that
Sterling was able to get one of each of his models out, but that was about
it.
Don't know about the prototypes he was working on.
Very, very sad. My Illusion is felling lonely already.

So glad that Sterling is safe, and so sad for the tremendous loss. What a
shock. Now the kayaks may be known as built before or after the fire.

Pam got word that Sterling managed to get one of every model out. Not sure
about the prototypes yet.
