my favorite is my "bending branches" 14o bent shaft canoe paddle, followed
closely by my _old_ bob foote wooden paddle [made by sawyer]. both are
fairly light, and well balanced, and WOOD ;-) i love the feel of a wooden
canoe paddle...

these are followed by my kevlar bob foote paddle, stiff, no personality
whatsoever!! light and fairly hard to abuse.

for my sea kayaks, i don't have a lot of experience with good paddles. my
favorite has to be the paddle my dad through in when i bought his sea
kayak, an aquaterra whisper. decent [i think!!] wooden paddle, very light
compared to many other paddles i've lifted. a bit of flex for someone my
weight [86Kg], but decent in comparison to good canoe paddles. the other
two kayak paddles i have are plastic & aluminum clubs, ll bean, which i
believe is a mohawk, and an aquaterra passage, which is lighter and nicer
then the ll bean ;-) but heavy. this is [for now, until i learn what i
want] my river paddle. the whisper cracked on a know last year, and i'm
not sure how to go about fixing it, suggestions?? offline or on. if i get
enough, i'll post a synopsis.

My paddle is a Werner Camano, 240 cm, which I have used for all of about 45
minutes so far -- less, really, because I let my brother-in-law try it out
for last part of our short paddle this past weekend. In exchange, he
handed me the Aquaterra paddle (name unknown to me) that was thrown in with
the Aquaterra Spectrum I had just bought used. That paddle, as soon as I
can get to Go With the Flow (a paddle shop here in Atlanta, GA, USA), will
be relegated to "spare" status -- the shaft is cracked in several places
and it is noticeably heavier than the Werner.

Dear padling friends, now I dont know much about thie tecknical side of
padles but feel that we are missing somthing.
You guys are all talking about the padle standing still in the water and the
boat moving and that is also what I tell my students but, the eskimo padle
has a completly different form and modern padles, here the water easely
moves past the padle it is this movement (slippage) thatproduces the
propulsion. I do not quite understand it but it must be simmular to swimming
where you maintain a space between your fingers where the water can flow
trough.

I maight have it all wrong but I am sure that som of you tech wizards can
clearefy this
