This morning here is extraordinary sunny, so coffee makes it perfect
(really, how do you make your coffee during the trips?)

About wine & food:

We did try actually create many Greek dishes during last summer and
the wine was found essential (during the weekend trips we are sharing
a bottle together with Rita, so no muddlehead =safety problems) ;-)

Stuffed wine leaves, filled mushrooms rice & wild rice and olives with
bread sticks do make quite a good summer meal in a cool shadow of a
tree - I am longing for it so much...

Actually, during the longer trips I tried making rice and adding
ready-mix soup powder to the boiling water: Mexican and chicken soups.
Easy to pack & carry. Really heavy stuff, so it was definitely power
food but later, one was really supposed to take care of the
ventilation of the tent :-)

Actually, very awful...and not very aesthetic. As if the neoprene
socks wouln´t be enough.

Cheers,

Ari Saarto

...but it IS very cold, in spite of what Ari might say:

So Ari, now that I have your attention, I have a couple of questions for
you (one of which is serious).

(1) Are skegs quite popular in "Fin-land", and is that how it got its
name? :-)

(2) What can you tell us about Finnish kayaks? Some of these designs
look quite intriguing, such as the Artisan:

http://com.utu.fi/kajaksport/english/artisan2.htm

Some of the other boats designed by Benny Aumala also look quite
interesting. Any feedback on these designs?

Finally, I leave you with a saying that was given to me by a beautiful
Finnish girl that I knew when I lived in Norway:

"Ilta on aamua viisaampi."

P.S. Please do not bother to respond in Finnish--I have just exhausted
my entire vocabulary. I gave up trying to learn Finnish when I found out
that there are 17 noun cases!

On one summer trip out to the barrier islands off Texas (read... very
warm temperatures), one of the paddlers packed some fajitas in dry
ice. What a treat for primitive camping on a warm Texas night. Never
would have made it if he'd packed with regular ice. We would always
try to have ice at least the first night for a summer trip. That
would happen if we left the mainland in the evening and crossed
over at night. No ice in the morning.

Cheers,

Jackie
