I'm in the happy position of being able to commute to my job via sea-kayak. I live about ten minutes walk from the club boathouse where my kayak lives, and I rent a storage cradle from a sea kayak store about five minutes walk from where I work. My employer provides showers, mostly intended for those who cycle to work. I do volunteer work which requires me to bring my car to work 1 day per week, otherwise I paddle year round. I am sure most of you have seen the commercial for Toyota where the city guy in a suite and briefcase looks at a Toyota with a kayak and mt bike and says "its Tuesday people work on Tuesay". Well I have adjusted my schedule so I am the guy in that Toyota. So the answer to the "curious survey" is: Weekends and Tuesdays! -- Hal Wilton, NH Power your boat with carbohydrates, not hydrocarbons. http://www.jlc.net/~hlevin 0 \_O \============\==============/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ \^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 0 *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************

Me too. I telecommute to work (which means I'm earning about 35% of my actual market value because I had to drop that far off in order to *get* telecommuting work) so that I can do workouts every day. I'm just hoping that this all pays off, because it's a heck of a lot of trouble. ---Rsk Rich Kulawiec rsk_at_gsp.org *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************

I've got 2 4/5 day definite trips scheduled, 2 probable weekends and hope to get several day trips in (probably MA). Even if you can't get to the coast as often as you like, there should be a nearby pond, lake or river you can sneak off for an hour or two to practice strokes or just paddle around and admire yourself in you new 'yak :-) *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************

I get out on the water every weekend and will quite shortly begin paddling several days a week after work - the daylight hours are already beginning to get longer. Water access is very close - less than 10 minutes away from just about anywhere in Juneau. As for me, I don't do winter paddling so this only applies to 7 months or so. Average is probably about once every 2 weeks or so over the 7 months. Of course, then there's the question of whether a weekend trip counts for getting on the water twice or once. In July and August the average rises to about once a week. As with most things, the more you get hooked, the more you do it.
