I am familiar with the Back-Up and consider theirs to be the most
responsible promotion of a safety device in the industry. I wish all
manufacturers were as responsible, I have also tested the Back-Up and
consider it a fine product because it reduces the need for a wet exit and
that translates into greater safety. The degree of risk increases in sharp
jumps when one encounters severe weather or conditions, then again when one
capsizes, then again when a roll fails, then again when one makes a wet
exit, and then again when one is separated from the boat. The Back-Up is
useful in correcting the problem at the failed roll stage.
